The National Restoration Party (NAREP) was founded in November 2009 by Elias Chipimo Jnr., a Corporate Lawyer and Rhodes Scholar who graduated from Oxford University. The party was officially launched in March 2010. DLDP has worked with NAREP since January 2013.
As a new party NAREP is yet to develop a strong party strucure and to gain representation in the partiament. In 2011 NAREP entered the presidential election. Elias Chipimo came out 5th of 10 candidates. NAREP is considered a party with a promising future but currently lacks a presence in the National Assembly and local council.
NAREP - a pioneer
NAREP and the party's approach to democracy stands out from other parties in Zambia as they carry out their political manifesto in a more constructive and less confrontational way than the traditional way of doing politics in the country
NAREP pursues a new way of doing politics in Zambia focusing on internal party democracy involving women and youth as well as issue-based politics. DLDP believes that NAREP's new approach to party politics will have a positive impact on the democratic development in Zambia.
For these reasons, DLDP has chosen to support the development and capacity construction of NAREP.
The vision of NAREP is for Zambia to develop into an equitable and prosperous country playing its role as:
- An alternative energy superpower
- The continental breadbasket
- A regional inland infrastructure and logistics hub
- A centre of technological and innovative excellence
- (Sense of) Community
