Ethnicity biggest challenge for political parties in Kenya

When Kenyans went to the ballot boxes on 4 March, ethnicity had great importance for whom they voted for and therefore also the outcome of the election, and it outweighed the parties' political messages in the campaign. Uhuru Kenyatta was elected as the country's fourth president of the two largest ethnic groups in an electoral alliance. Despite significant progress since the 2007 elections political parties still fall short when they have to promote their own policies and political programme.
